Meet Rachel Skaw, DPT, CHC

Dr. Skaw is a physical therapist and certified health coach. She is a Marquette native and proud Yooper. She received her doctorate in physical therapy from the University of Minnesota in 2012 and then returned to the UP to share her passion for health and wellness with the people of her lakeside home..

Rachel practices using a holistic model of care, considering the whole person (mind, body, & spirit). She has special training in:

  • mind body medicine

  • stress physiology and reduction strategies

  • the neuroscience of pain

  • biofeedback

  • manual therapy techniques

  • meditative movement & mindfulness techniques

  • functional exercise/movement

Many of these treatment techniques will be incorporated into each session based on indicated need. She recognizes that our lifestyles, mindset, and environments play a profound role in contributing to our health or dis-ease. Thus, foundations for wellness such as sleep, daily movement, functional strength, eating habits, stress management, and participation in joyful activities (among others) will be addressed. Rachel has a deep understanding that our bodies have an incredible and innate ability to heal. She is honored to be able to walk with and empower her future clients on their paths toward an improved quality of life.

Rachel enjoys spending time with her husband, their toddler son, infant daughter, & their two yellow labs along with her family and friends (who fill up her cup on a daily basis); creating new flavors & healthy meals in the kitchen; hiking; XC skiing; camping; traveling to new and unique corners of our country & the world; reading; and enjoying the peace and tranquility of the woods surrounding her home. She is looking forward to bringing her unique approach to Be Well as well as to team with other practitioners & healers to provide an optimal healing environment to the Marquette community as a whole.
